Abstract

In this talk, I will introduce cross-disciplinary fields between Linguistics and Computational Engineering. A curricular plan for effective language teaching with exiguous effort through the assistance of computer will be discussed. Two curriculum plans involving students composing Wikipedia entries will also be presented. A new GitBook titled "iLingo" composed by students in my Computer-Assisted Language Learning class will debut in the talk.

 

Bio:

Dr. Yuwen Lai is an assistant professor of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. She obtained her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Kansas and was a postdoctoral teaching fellow at University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Her research interests focus on language processing of Taiwanese tones and English lexical stress. Besides academia, she promotes liberalism and is currently the Head of Division for Sustainable Development of Global Citizenship Education Center at NCTU.
